There is something so special about the combination of sweet grilled pineapple and savory barbecue sauce. These turkey burgers have been a favorite in my house for years because they offer such a fun tropical twist on a classic cookout staple.

The secret is using a good quality barbecue sauce and making sure you get a nice char on the pineapple slices. It creates a balance of flavors that makes every single bite taste like a summer vacation.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 4 slices pepper jack cheese
  • 4 pineapple rings
  • 4 slices bacon, cooked until crispy
  • 1/2 cup your favorite barbecue sauce
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. 1

Divide the ground turkey into four equal portions and shape them into patties.

  2. 2

Season both sides of each patty with a little salt and pepper.

  3. 3

Heat a grill or a large skillet over medium heat.

  4. 4

Cook the turkey patties for about 5 to 6 minutes per side until they are fully cooked through.

  5. 5

During the last two minutes of cooking, place a slice of pepper jack cheese on each burger so it melts nicely.

  6. 6

While the burgers cook, place the pineapple rings on the grill or in a separate pan until they are lightly browned and warm.

  7. 7

Lightly toast your hamburger buns if you like them warm.

  8. 8

To assemble, place a burger patty on each bun, top with a crispy bacon slice and a warm pineapple ring, and drizzle generously with barbecue sauce.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

You can prep the patties ahead of time and keep them in the fridge until you are ready to cook. Store any leftover burgers in an airtight container for up to two days, but I suggest keeping the pineapple separate so it stays firm.
