Growing up, shucking corn was always a chore that left a huge mess on the kitchen counter. I spent years pulling off those stubborn silk threads one by one, only to realize there is a much faster way to get perfect corn every time.

This microwave trick is a total lifesaver for busy summer dinners. It steams the corn inside the husk so the silk slides right off, making cleanup almost nonexistent.

Ingredients

  • 2 ears of fresh corn in the husk
  • 1 microwave safe plate

Instructions

  1. 1

Place the corn ears directly into the microwave while they are still in their husks.

  2. 2

Microwave on high for 4 minutes per ear. If you are doing two ears at once, 8 minutes is usually just right.

  3. 3

Carefully remove the corn from the microwave. It will be very hot, so use a towel or tongs.

  4. 4

Trim off the stem end of the corn with a sharp knife.

  5. 5

Hold the silk end and give the corn a firm shake or squeeze. The cob will slide right out of the husk, leaving all the silk behind inside the wrapper.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips

Serve your corn immediately with a generous pat of butter and a pinch of salt. If you have leftovers, you can store the cooked kernels in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.
